Straight Stairlifts – Curved Stairlifts: Making Your Business Comply with Disability Laws

If you run a business such as a B&B, hotel or guest house buying straight stairlifts or curved stairlifts is a great way to increase your turnover.

With upfront costs of buying straight stairlifts from as little as £999, it is easy to see how a stairlift is a good investment.

A stairlift will mean your B&B, hotel or guest house could attract a wider customer base as it would give customers access to every floor.

It will also ensure your business is Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) compliant. The DDA Act requires all organisations to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to give people with disabilities access to their services and premises.

So if you run a B&B, hotel or guest house, straight stairlifts or curved stairlifts could help put your business ahead of the competition.

There are many public and private organisations that could benefit from the installation of a stairlift including: guest houses, health organisations, social care services and housing associations, and we count many of these among our clients.

At Ransome Mobility our staff are always on hand to offer independent help and advice on all home and business solutions including the installation of straight stairlifts and curved stairlifts.

Lift Verses Stairlift

It is vital that businesses comply with the law to make their services user friendly for people of all abilities. This may mean you have to think about installing a lift or stairlift, so all rooms are accessible on your premises.

While lifts are suitable for bigger organisations, straight stairlifts or curved stairlifts may be the better option for a smaller business, such as B&Bs.
Stairlifts are generally cheaper to install and to run as the annual running costs in the home are similar to the yearly costs of running a kettle. They are also cheaper to service and to maintain than a lift.

One of the many benefits of buying straight stairlifts or curved stairlifts through Ransome Mobility is that we offer an unrivalled aftercare service, with 24 hour assistance 364 days a year on all our mobility products.

This means that whatever your business or organisation, we are always at the other end of the telephone to assist you when you need it most.

Choosing Your Stairlift

There are many different types of stairlifts that would be suitable for a business, including B&Bs, guest houses or hotels.

The stairlift you select depends on the type of stairs that you have. If you have straight stairs, you would choose straight stairlifts, but if you have stairs with a curve, curved stairlifts may be the best option.

Many older guest houses have narrow staircases so you may want a stairlift with a slim design that can be installed closer to the wall. As there are likely to be several people using it, you may also want a heavy weight version, so it will be suitable for people of all sizes.

Although most standard stairlifts carry passengers up to at least 18 stone, there are heavy duty versions that can carry people up to 30 stone.

Other features include a powered foot rest and swivel seat, although a manual option may be better if you have multiple users.

If you are concerned about guests playing with the stairlift, all stairlifts come with a key switch so you can prevent any unauthorised use.

Some businesses such as care homes, retirement homes or retirement flats may have several flights of stairs and it may be that each of these will need a stairlift. If your business has multiple stairlift users all straight stairlifts and curved stairlifts come with a remote control as standard and these can also be used by a third party or carer to call the stairlift up or down.
